The input of a Front End Electronics (for SI PDAs only) can be expanded to operate up to 8 detector arrays / channels at the same time. The main advantage, compared to an optical multiplexer, is that all channels are read out quasi simultaneously, which means the spectra are taken at the very same time and are handled by the very same electronic chain. Consequently, referencing can be significantly improved. For more details please see Basics & Configurator/ Electronics. The MUX board sits directly on top of the related FEE board, so space requirements are very low.
